This is a culinary drama with a dash of comedy and a tiny dash of romance. This drama is appropriate if you're looking for food. Look elsewhere if you're hoping for romance. It's not this at all.
For the better or worse...
For the better:
1. Beautiful Colorful Cutscenes: Although they were few in number, the colorful cutscenes that were not related to food were incredibly stunning. I was so hoping to see more of them, but all we saw were two of them.
2. There are a lot of high-quality food cutscenes, and while I liked them, they didn't feel as rewarding as the ones in Dating in the Kitchen. Even though they were of a high caliber and well shot, they seemed rather missing.
3. The Leads: Both of them make excellent actors. I had a great time watching them. I doubt I would have stayed up to watch all 40 episodes if it weren't for them.
4. The OST is excellent and unique compared to most other contemporary Chinese shows.
What's Bad
1. Slow-paced: It moves at a very slow pace, which is slowed down even further by the side storylines. I thought this drama was mostly boring outside of the first five and the last five episodes.
2. Extremely Low Heart Fluttering Where is the closeness? Not even kisses are being discussed. Just enough to give you the impression that the leads are in love. There was definitely a sense of care between them, but there didn't seem to be any romance.
3. Pointless anecdotes: Since they were so tedious and had little to do with the main plot—aside from the character knowing the leads—I actually found myself scrolling through the majority of the side stories.
5. Evil/Bad Character Overload: Honestly, aside from the main characters and a select few others, who isn't a bad character? None of them, however, came close to the 2FL, who blatantly requires mental assistance. She
employed one of the most crazy tactics I've ever witnessed in an effort to stay with the ML. She is a mess, and the worst part is that enablers surround her. (Spoilers underneath with further information on her.)
6. The 2FL's Dubbing: Everyone else in the drama is alright, but for some reason, her dubbing is not just noticeable, it completely misrepresents her lip movement. Despite the stunning production value of this show, they glaringly botched the dubbing of her.
